I relished every single minute of our wedding day; it was a dream come true and I’d love to re-live it all over again (and again!). If I had one piece of advice for brides-to-be reading this now, it would be to make every element of your day as personal to you as possible, so that you don’t regret a single decision.
Like most brides, after getting engaged I purchased many magazines and scoured lots of wedding blogs (like I take you!) to get inspiration. The majority of featured weddings were shabby chic rustic wedding and this style had obviously become the flavor of the month. So we decided we wanted ours to be different.
That didn’t mean a wedding that was very whacky or unusual, but simply we wanted to love and feel passionate about every detail and not to choose it because it was currently popular, or fitted a theme.
Of course, a stunning setting also helps, and that took us a while to find. We spent many weekends visiting potential locations with my very patient parents, but it was only when we visited Northbrook Park, that we got “the feeling”.
Talking of “the feeling”, I hope you get that when you try on your dress too! I was so nervous at first and was worried when none of the dresses felt quite right. It was like I was pretending to be a bride. Now, I know that it was because I hadn’t found “the one” – as soon as I tried on my Watters gown, I loved it. It wasn’t a traditional gown, or the more popular fitted lace style, but it was me!
For vows & songs. We used tradition vows. I walked in to Pachelbel in Canon D and we walked out to ‘All you need is love’ by the Beatles – both played by a string trio.
Obviously our style may not be your cup of tea either, but what I am trying to say is that if you fancy a different dress, a unique cake, or a random location, just go for it. You’ll only get your day once x x
