Sarah and Jason wanted a Fairytale, timeless wedding in South Wales. And if you scroll through their photo gallery, Captured by Pavel, I think you’ll agree with us that they nailed it! Using a soft, feminine colour scheme of crème, blush pink, and touches of gold, everything comes together with a mix of classic and contemporary design.
Starting with the bride – Sarah is the perfect vision of a bride in a princess Hayley Paige ballgown with layers of tulle and beautiful beaded straps. The bridesmaids’ unique two-tone pink and cream dresses are so charming, especially with their hi-low hemline! What a wonderful mix of contemporary and classic. The men are in traditional 3-piece tuxedos with soft pink ties to match the ladies. And all of them rolled up to the beautiful Catholic church in style – in an antique Rolls Royce limo in classic white!
Now let’s talk about their reception venue – WHAT a stunning vista! Curzon Hall makes the fairytale come together with it’s amazing castle-style campus!
And lastly, we want to point out their beautiful wedding cake. Their cake is another perfect example of blending contemporary and classic. Sticking with their colour scheme, it stands on a bottom tier layered with beautiful iced flowers, then contrasts that with crisp, smooth white tiers with a strip of elegant gold personalized with the initials of the bride and groom. And don’t miss how they added a touch of their personality with the Batman and Wonder Woman cake toppers!
How did you and your partner meet?
My best friend was dating his best friend.
How did he propose?
Jason took me out during the day for a picnic at the Botanic Gardens, visiting some of my favourite places along the way. We finished off the perfect day with a stunning view of the city as we dined at O Bar & Dining…which is where I was sure he was going to propose. But dinner came and went…and no proposal! In fact, during dinner he suggested we meet up with our friends for drinks after. Friends? Drinks? Seriously?
Confused but still grateful for the wonderful day we’d had together, we found our friends and ordered drinks. Not long after, Jason disappeared excusing himself to go to the bathroom. Since my hopes of being proposed to that day were long gone, I didn’t think much of it…until much later, when my friend Kate, got a suspicious text. Next thing I knew, a key was placed in my hands and I was being ushered across the room towards the lifts, with instructions on what floor and room to go to.
When I got to the room, I opened the door to find the place covered in rose petals and fairy lights ( one of my favourite things in the world ) …and Jason down on one knee ( with Somewhere Over the Rainbow playing ).
They had all been in on it…while Jason and I had been out, our friends were busy decorating the room, putting up fairy lights, setting up music and getting our overnight bags (with clothes Jason had managed to smuggle out of my closet) into our room.
I used to joke around with Jason all the time, saying that there’s no way he’d be able to take me out to propose, without me catching on. I suppose I was sort of right, but nonetheless, he still proved me wrong!
What’s your most important piece of advice for creating and maintaining a strong relationship?
Let the small stuff go. Never stop being considerate or doing small gestures ‘just because’. Communicate, communicate, communicate and most of all remember to laugh! Life is too short and a good laugh can heal a lot of hurts.
Tell us about your wedding gown and how you chose it:
We went to a wedding expo the day after our engagement party. We were exhausted after all the festivities and the prep leading up to it, but decided to go along anyway. While we were there, someone handed me a flyer with a wedding dress on it as I was passing by in my state of delirium.
I wasn’t the kind of girl that had been planning my wedding since I was 12, so I didn’t have a folder filled with ideas – and the dress was no exception! But when I saw this dress, I fell in love instantly.
Time went by and I ended up trying on a bunch of dresses, but none made my heart melt like the Hailey Paige I’d seen on the flyer. I knew it had to be a sign that I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I found out where I could try the dress on and never looked back. To make it my own, I used beautifully beaded appliques to make straps for my dress…using what was left to make a matching hair piece.
What sort of style did you envision for your wedding day?
Fairy-tale…beautiful, classy and meaningful, with sandstone buildings and a touch of Tuscany.
What was your favorite moment from the day?
Walking out of the church as a married couple.
Any DIY décor elements?
We did the bonbonniere and all the flowers ourselves. It was a lot of work and I definitely couldn’t have without my incredible mum.
If you could do it all over again, what would you change?
I’d elope! haha just joking. It was a lot of hard work, but it was all worth it in the end. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Any tips that you can give to future brides?
It’s hard, but try not to let others influence your ‘big day’. Input from friends and family can be great, but if possible, talk to your partner first and get yourselves on the same page…then bring in the cavalry!
Anything else you’d like to add?
