Amethyst crystals and rose quartz’s, an embellished cow skull centrepiece and towers of gold flaked macaroons – these are just a few of the gorgeous details featured in this stunning boho- lux lavender bridal shoot. Pairing Moroccan influences with romantic and whimsical undertones, the result is a style that would appeal to any offbeat or traditional bride.
We sit down with the brainchild behind the day, creative director of luxury stationery company Adorn Invitations. With an expert team coming together to create this magical day, the husband and wife duo from Sephory Photography captured images that are sure to get your creative juices flowing.
Discovering the Inspiration
“It’s so funny to think that our original idea for this shoot involved an alternative tatted up bride, shades of ox-blood and broody forest settings!
As most brides will find when they start to plan their wedding day – themes and ideas will continue to evolve organically. As we continued our search for inspirational motifs (artwork, photoshoots, colours etc) we found that our mood board slowly progressed into a lighter, more romantic, whimsical and bohemian look. Dark shades were replaced with vibrant lilacs and golds and gothic nuances grew into more bohemian vibes.
However, at the heart of this shoot – we wanted to produce something that had never been done before and something that was accessible to any type of bride and style.”
Bringing the Theme to Life – Décor and Details
“We wanted self-proclaimed gypsy brides and more traditional women to all find beauty in this editorial. This is why in every décor element, we sought to find a balance between offbeat bohemian trends and more modern-elegant details.
Organic semi-precious stones were scattered around a table arrangement of wild flowers and were paired with sleek metallic lines, reminiscent of the art-deco area. Geometric vases were positioned throughout the greenery and helped give structure amongst the chaos. Crystal glasses were sourced to give forth a lavish component and these were paired with satin ribbons for a whimsical touch.
When custom designing invitations for the shoot – we wanted to produce invites that would get our hypothetical guests excited for the unique and lavish day that was to come.
We crafted intricate lasercut designs and foiled them with a high shine gold to tie into our décor. A satin purple ribbon encompassed the stationery set (the same detail around the brides bouquet and cutlery) and we finished off our invites with a luxe rose gold wax seal. The designs that we created for the shoot ended up being so popular, that we actually put them into manufacturing for our own brides! They’ve been our best sellers ever since.
Our outdoor seating arrangement was an informal replica of our indoor dining table which was designed to appeal to the more traditional of brides. However – we really let loose outside and played around with some more eccentric details.
Our embellished cow skull motif was a DIY project and was no doubt the mascot and personification of the shoot! He transcended through our previous theme which was a lot darker, but with the help of some pearls, lace and crystals – we adapted him to suit a more romantic and elegant theme. We hope that brides can look at details such as that centrepiece and find the courage to recreate something similar!”
Dining
“The delectable assortment of sweet treats were not only a beautiful aesthetic (we had a tower of macaroons in different shades of lavender, garnished with gold leaf) but an afternoon tea with Moroccan cushions/rugs is a fantastic idea for brides on their own wedding day! Your guests will adore a high tea reception amongst the beauty and scent of a lavender field.”
Location
“The reason we settled on Sault, apart from the stunning lavender field that sprawled over the grounds, was because of the venues versatility. Due to the size of the property – there were endless options and scenarios for us to shoot in!
The indoor restaurant with its timber finishes and limestone walls, beautifully complimented our boho and organic décor. The tree where we positioned our outdoor dining setting also allowed us to manufacture a stunning lighting arrangement. Small glass vases were tied onto the branches for an incredible scene at sunset.”
The Result
“After months of inspirational prep and vendor coordination, and after hours of shooting (12 hours to be exact) our amazing team could not be more thrilled with the outcome.
The images were exactly like how we imagined. Romantic dreamy hues and vibrant purples, a young couple in love and intricate décor details. We hope that brides will be able to find the same beauty that we can see in our editorial and be inspired to recreate their own wonderland wedding day – with or without the cow skull.”
